Camellia lutchuensis
Camellia lutchuensis

Alternative Views:

A native to Japan, Camellia lutchuensis produces a profusion of very small, scented, single white flowers from late winter into the spring. With small, shiny leaves that are bronze-coloured when young, the overall appearance is similar to Camellia transnokoensis, except that the habit is more open and spreading. While probably at its best in warmer climates, we have found it to be sufficiently hardy to grow in a sheltered position outdoors, or it would make an excellent plant for a conservatory or greenhouse.
Camellia lutchuensis has been widely utilised by plant breeders to produce scented Camellia hybrids, such as Spring Mist, Quintessence and Fragrant Pink.
