Cranberries belong to the same Vaccinium family as Blueberries and enjoy similar moist, acid soil conditions. A low-growing, spreading evergreen with very small leaves, they can be used as a groundcover plant or allowed to trail over the edge of a container or hanging basket. Tiny white or pink flowers appear during the summer, followed by the familiar oval fruit that gradually ripen to dark red during the autumn, ready just in time for the Christmas turkey.
